The current vice-principal, Nii Amaa Akita, who holds a BSc (Maths (Major)/ Computer Science (Minor)) from the University of Ghana, Legon was appointed a full time Mathematics teacher and Head of the Mathematics department at SOS-HGIC in August 1992. In the same year, he took on additional responsibilities as IGCSE/EXAM coordinator and served in these roles for many more years. Previous to this, he taught Mathematics, Additional Mathematics and A-level Mathematics at Ghana International School (GIS) for five years, from 1987 to 1992 and was one of the pioneering teachers to start the A-level Mathematics course at GIS.
His varied experience in teaching started soon after graduation in 1984, as a Part Time Lecturer (1984-1986) at the Institute of Social Statistical & Economic Research, Legon (Mathematics/Statistics) and teaching assistant (1984 – 1986) at the Mathematics department of the University of Ghana, Legon.
Over the last 31 years of his teaching career, he has attended and participated in several educational conferences abroad and been an integral part of the establishment of various structures at SOS-HGIC. He is passionate about educating young minds and, beyond teaching, he has, and continues to mentor several students and staff, who have become lifelong friends.
