The Middle Years Programme

SOS-HGIC has been authorized to offer Years 4 and 5 of the IB MYP since October 2020. The MYP is, therefore, our entry-level curriculum. Our MYP students progress directly into the IB DP, a program we have offered for over 30 years.

The MYP programme focuses on conceptual understanding, learning in context through disciplinary and interdisciplinary learning as well as the development of skills. The skills developed to provide a foundation for independent learning and encourage the application of knowledge and skills in unfamiliar contexts through a wide range of assessments and the culminating personal project; skills required to succeed at the IB DP. The move to the MYP from the IGCSE means that our approaches to learning the MYP are very different to those required for traditional IGCSEs. As such we have had to review our entry requirements to ensure that the students we recruit have the necessary skills to fully engage and succeed in the MYP.

While the standards and content we assess in our entrance examination will not change, our approach to the selection of successful candidates has changed. The level of academic excellence required to gain admission to SOS-HGIC has not changed but the instruments we use to select has and we will employ a variety of approaches in line with the skills required for the MYP.  The level of emphasis and the approach may differ from year to year but the standards in Numeracy, Literacy, and critical thinking remain the same.
