Former SOS-HGIC Head Boy Visits Alma Mater
Mr. Edem Lithur (2014), a former head boy of SOS-HGIC, recently visited his alma mater after several years. Upon arriving at the school, he was greeted by his former teachers and students who were thrilled to see him again. As he toured the school, he reminisced about the good times he had spent there and how the school had shaped him into the person he is today. Alumni Gather to Discuss Masculinity and Femininity at SOS-HGIC
A group of alumni from SOS-HGIC recently gathered with students to discuss issues related to masculinity and femininity. The gathering was split into two separate forums, one for men and one for women. The men's forum, dubbed "Brotherhood and Beyond: Exploring Models For Male Excellence" was held in the dining hall. The group discussed issues related to manhood and masculinity. The discussion was led by a group of guest speakers who were invited to share their insights and experiences on the subject. Alumni Return to HGIC to Celebrate National Day
Former students of SOS-HGIC returned to their alma mater to attend the national day. The event featured a variety of cultural performances, including traditional dances and skits, as well as a diverse selection of dishes from around the world. The alumni were excited to reconnect with the school community. When we think of successful careers, our minds often go straight to traditional professions like doctors, lawyers, and engineers. However, many alternative paths can lead to a fulfilling and successful career. One such path is the creative industry, and one former student of SOS-HGIC is making waves in this field. Charles Minkah Premo aka Dj Yamz (2012), an upcoming artist, recently spoke at the school assembly, where he shared his journey from being a student at SOS-HGIC to pursuing his passion for music production. Paul Forjoe, Facilitator – Poetry/Spoken Word CAS
Paul Forjoe, an artist and alumnus of SOS-HGIC, returned to his alma mater to lead the Poetry/Spoken Words Community Action Service (CAS) group. The Poetry/Spoken Words CAS group was created to provide a platform for students to express themselves creatively through poetry and spoken word. Under Paul’s leadership, the Poetry/Spoken Words CAS group has flourished. Paul brings his years of experience in the arts to the group, helping students develop their writing and performance skills. Alumni Advisory Council Inaugural Meeting
The recent Alumni Advisory Council meeting was a productive and collaborative gathering of school staff and alumni. During the meeting, we discussed the objectives of the alumni office and reviewed our past events and activities while also discussing upcoming events. The discussion was focused on fostering a sense of community among alumni, promoting the school's values and traditions, and supporting current students and faculty. We also brainstormed ways to improve these events and incorporate the suggestions of alumni attendees in the future. A Visit from SOS Lesotho
Representatives from SOS Lesotho recently visited the college to discuss ways to increase enrollment of students from Lesotho into SOS - HGIC. The delegation, which included, Youth Development /Alternative Care Coordinator; Ithabeleng Ramonate; Social Worker, Palesa Khotlele and two SOS Villages mothers; Ms. Christine Aboke and Ms. Julia Masabata Lepheana, met with the School Leadership Team (SLT) and teachers to explore opportunities for collaboration and partnership. THE ESSAF CONFERENCE YOUTH POWER SUMMIT
The ESAF Youth Power Summit is a youth empowerment program aimed to support young people to strengthen their initiatives as well as foster a culture of youth involvement in Africa. Over 40 participants from 17 nations attended the summit. The youth leaders acted as mentors, listening to the teenagers' proposals and providing constructive feedback. The summit provided an opportunity for young changemakers to create and expand strong networks across the continent and even beyond. THE YURLIM FOUNDATION: A Project by DP1 Students
‘Yurlim’, a Dagbani word meaning ‘love’, was aptly chosen for this initiative's name. This foundation was founded by a group of DP1 students and catered to the social and emotional needs of teenagers and encourages them also to practice self-love for the entirety of their lives. The Yurlim Initiative was launched on Thursday 5th January 2023 at the Labadi Beach Hotel. The Launch included an interview with the founders, Natasha Nettey, Fafali Godzi, Phoebe Nkrumah, Davina Adjei, and Nuna Agbodza, where they spoke about their plans for the future, which included talks and workshops with teens and pre-teens.
