At SOS - HGIC we are constantly keeping in line with our mission to create an environment that increases academic, social, and emotional success—an environment of strong school connectedness. We believe that sharing and exchanging best practices is one of the best ways to improve our environment. Last week our principal, Mrs. Dadson, and the Curriculum Management Team (CMT); Mr. Gogovi, Mrs. Addison, and Mr. Amengor, visited Tonbridge Grammar School, also an IB World School, to interact with students and teachers and exchange ideas on raising attainment and academic achievement. SOS - HGIC would not be what it is without the amazing teachers we have at the forefront. They are essential in helping the children we serve stay happy, engaged and on track to reach their educational goals. This past week we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teachers enjoyed many surprises such as little goodie bags, personal notes and cards from their students. The highlight of this event was when students got to dress up like teachers and some of them were spot on!   We know that the past few years have been especially difficult as the pandemic progressed and

At SOS - HGIC we engage in an array of exchange programs designed to bring young people together in a spirit of intercultural understanding and respect and to enhance social and communication skills. Our exchange programs emphasize collaboration, community involvement, and a sense of adventure. We encourage our students to be risk-takers, explore the diversity of our world, and develop the skills necessary to take on the challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s world. Toward achieving this goal, we kicked off our first exchange program of the year with students from  Cologne International School, Germany. The team from Cologne comprised of fourteen

One of the best qualities of SOS - HGIC  is the wide range of cultures represented in our students and staff, and we are always embracing and celebrating these cultures every chance we get. On the 13th of September we celebrated Ethiopia’s new year “Enkutatash.” The word Enkutatash is heavy with symbolism as it not only means the ‘gift of jewels’ but also represents the end of the rainy season. This is the time of year where the Ethiopian landscape is covered with bright yellow flowers called Adey Abeba. During dinner all the students wore yellow and white to show

We are excited to announce the launch of our new Modern Languages Laboratory located at the Hermann Gmeiner Block. The modern languages lab will serve as a focal point and a beneficial resource center for student learning and information sharing about language-related issues and opportunities. It will be utilized by various foreign language classes throughout the week as a teaching and research facility as well as an open lab space for students. “We are hoping to use this space to create an ideal environment for language learning as well as to foster innovation,” said the Head of Department Mr Mensah, who

During the first week of school in our  academic year (15th - 19th August 2022), the incoming DP1 and MYP4 students went through an orientation program in preparation for life in SOS-HGIC and the 2022/2023 Academic year. They were introduced to the different departments of our school and  learned their functions and how they seek to help our new and existing students throughout the year. What kind of skills are required to succeed in the 21st century? At SOS HGIC we are  constantly reflecting on our  practices and the integration of ATL (Approaches to Learning) as an integral part of the IB programme. Every year, SOS-HGIC dedicates the first week of the new year to Staff development. This year, the focus was on getting teachers to collaborate with other  international schools in the country to share best practices and learn from experts in the field.    We were privileged to have Lance King, an experienced internationally recognised author, teacher and workshop facilitator  who has been transforming and
