Cologne International School Exchange Programme
At SOS – HGIC we engage in an array of exchange programs designed to bring young people together in a spirit of intercultural understanding and respect and to enhance social and communication skills. Our exchange programs emphasize collaboration, community involvement, and a sense of adventure. We encourage our students to be risk-takers, explore the diversity of our world, and develop the skills necessary to take on the challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s world.
Toward achieving this goal, we kicked off our first exchange program of the year with students from Cologne International School, Germany. The team from Cologne comprised of fourteen DP students accompanied by their Head of School Mr. Shaun Roberts, Mrs. Theresa Kwabi; a former teacher of SOS-HGIC and Mr. Isaac Mills. They arrived on Saturday, 24th September 2022 and stayed in Ghana for two weeks. Cologne International School is a bilingual IB School committed to providing students with an individualized learning experience. This has been achieved by operating two secondary schools, providing students with access to both the German and International learning models. With the exception of the last 2 years because of COVID, our two institutions have had students and teachers on exchange visits since 2014.
While in Ghana, our guests lodged in the hostels with some of our students and attended lessons with them. In our aim to expand comfort zones, broaden young students’ horizons, and nurture friendships, the exchange students joined in on SOS – HGIC activities like the inter-hostel singing competition and the MUN local conference. Throughout the 2 weeks, exchanges between students were encouraged; team activities and a mutual sharing of ideas, culture, respect, and understanding were promoted. Students in both schools have expressed being educated and enriched by this experience.
