The project was spearheaded by the SOS-HGIC Class of 1995, the first IB Diploma Graduating Class. In her remarks, the Project Lead, Mrs. Felicia Kwafo, described the experience as challenging, but also rewarding, as it marked a new tradition of alumni coming back and giving back to the school, which has been christened, “Nsako na Nsaba” translated from Twi to mean “the hand that receives, comes back to give/ serve”.The 2nd of March 2021, saw a flurry of activity on the SOS-HGIC campus in Tema, as a group of select guests, together with members of the Senior Leadership Team and the Curriculum Management Team, made their way towards the Staff Common Room, for its re-opening after months of renovation works.

A commemorative plaque was presented to the leaders of the Class of 1996, to encourage them to continue in the tradition of alumni service and excellence that had commenced.

In her response, the Principal of the College, Mrs. Eliz Dadson, thanked the Class of 1995 for the gesture, especially for the thoughtfulness of commencing with staff.

She drew links with the school motto, “Knowledge in the Service of Africa”, encouraging all staff, alumni, and students to emulate the worthy example set by the SOS-HGIC Class of 1995.

Staff expressed their pleasure and surprise as they toured the new facility, remarking that it was a much brighter, greener space, clearly designed for relaxation and wellness. Mr. Isaac Darko, an English teacher at the College, remarked, “We cannot thank the class of 1995 enough for blazing the trail in what promises to be the beginning of benign battles between the year groups!

It felt like walking through a newly minted coffee shop and I felt like I had ‘desecrated’ it when I entered the first time! May it continue to be a haven where genuine camaraderie is forged and fostered in a great place where our work can be equally rigorous and rewarding at the same time.

God bless HGIC and thank you once again Class of 1995!”

“Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful … Very aesthetically pleasing with a relaxing, calm vibe. I believe it will definitely serve as an oasis for us all to refresh and rejuvenate and connect better with each other.

Thank you once again to the class of 1995,” shared Dr. Carol Matthias O’Chez, the school’s Emotional Counsellor.

Mr. Mark Carter, Head of Department for Mathematics summed up the general sentiment of staff as he shared, “… a big improvement from the old one. A pleasant surprise.”

Indeed, the staff of SOS-HGIC will for a long time, continue to thank the Class of 1995 for the breath of fresh air and the very pleasant surprise unveiled on March 2nd, 2021.
