SOS-HGIC Careers Day 2022
Tuesday 18th of October marked the date for SOS-HGIC’s Annual Career Day. The theme of the day was, “The Winding Path to A Profession.” We had an outstanding presentation from our guest speaker, a financial engineer and parent of a student of this fine institution, Mr. Steve Williams. His presentation on the many paths his life has taken was riveting. Indeed our overarching aim was to explore the various pathways that culminate in developing a meaningful career. One which is impactful to our communities and eventually enables us to contribute towards Africa’s development and transformation.
Just as exciting and informative were the breakout sessions, which exposed students to many potential career paths, some of which they were aware of, and others they were not. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight into their futures, as engineers, market analysts, doctors, production directors, and many more.
Afua Addison, an MYP4 student stated, “My first career day in HGIC was an amazing and exciting experience and taught me a lot about many interesting career paths. The first session I had was with Mrs. Okudzeto, an electrical engineer, and it was my favorite. We share a lot of interests, so I could relate to a lot of what she said. She attended MUN conferences as a child and is a passionate supporter of children’s rights.”
Tristan Canfor- Dumas, a DP1 student also added, “During career day I had the opportunity to meet two different professionals, a psychologist, and an entrepreneur. The entrepreneur spoke a great deal about pushing through your obstacles and never giving up and the psychologist talked about putting your mental health first before anything else in order to succeed. This day was very useful and gave me a great amount of knowledge towards my future. ”
