Celebrating Enkutatash
One of the best qualities of SOS – HGIC is the wide range of cultures represented in our students and staff, and we are always embracing and celebrating these cultures every chance we get. On the 13th of September we celebrated Ethiopia’s new year “Enkutatash.” The word Enkutatash is heavy with symbolism as it not only means the ‘gift of jewels’ but also represents the end of the rainy season. This is the time of year where the Ethiopian landscape is covered with bright yellow flowers called Adey Abeba. During dinner all the students wore yellow and white to show their appreciation for Enkutatash and the Ethiopian students wore their traditional attires. The SRC team played a video educating the students about the history of Enkutatash and we had exhilarating performances from the Ethiopian students and teachers. The highlight of the night was the mouthwatering Ethiopian food like Injera and Dulet that students got to eat amongst each other. Overall it was a night to remember.
